06 Nov Defective Hanging Light Fixtures (Ceiling Boxes)
Today's recall of ~22,400 Ceiling Boxes by Cooper Crouse-Hinds is interesting. The CPSC says that the ceiling boxes can crack, which can cause the light fixture to fall from the ceiling, posing an impact hazard to consumers. While no injuries have yet been reported as a result of this product defect, the potential for injury or death is still there for those who do not seek a replacement or refund. Many people using this product in their homes will probably never even know it was recalled.
The recall covers 5 different models of Cooper Crouse-Hinds non-metallic, polycarbonate ceiling boxes (manufacturer or part numbers TP16002, TP16022, TP16023, TP16122 and TP16307). The round, black ceiling boxes are 1.5-2.25" deep and measure between 3.5-4" in diameter. The units were sold nationwide from December 2012 to April 2013.
I would strongly urge readers to contact Cooper Crouse-Hinds for more information, and to share the news on their social media profiles in an effort to spread the word about this potential hazard in the home.
