ALERT: Boys’ Hoodies Cause a Potential Strangulation Hazard

It is not something that we often think of as potentially threatening, but clothing can be added to the seemingly endless list of possible threats to children. According to a story on the New York Injury News, a certain style of hooded flannel and fleece sweatshirts sold exclusively through Burlington Coat Factory has recently been recalled. The shirts in question have been shown to present a strangulation hazard, though there have been no reports of injury thus far. The drawstring on the hoodie is at the root of the voluntary product recall.

The garments are boys’ hoodies and were sold under the name “Bay Trading” between September of 2006 and October of 2009. Just-Style.com reports that this recall affects about 13,000 garments.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is advising owners of the product to discontinue use immediately and remove the potentially dangerous drawstring before returning the item to a Burlington Coat Factory outlet. Customers can also contact the distributor, Jason Evans, at (888) 683-0063. Owners of the item will be issued a full refund of the purchase price.
