20 Nov ALERT: Office Depot Chair Recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Raynor Marketing recalls Quantum Office Chairs due to a potential cause of injury.
The voluntary recall of the office chairs were exclusively sold at Office Depot Stores. Consumers who purchased the chairs are advised to stop use immediately and unless they are informed of otherwise.
The products that have been recalled are Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mesh Chair with Headrest SKU # 690690 and Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chair SKU # 510830. The “sister chair” Realspace PRO Mesh Guest Chair was not involved in the recall.
Both have been reported to malfunction when in use. Close to 150,000 chairs have been manufactured or purchased by consumers. The chairs were imported through the Raynor Marketing LTD, located in West Hempstead, New York. The defective product was manufactured by Comfort Furniture, LTD, China.
The potential health threat that that usage of the chairs pose is that the seatback of the chairs bolts can become loose and detach. This created a possible fall hazard for consumers. There have been 33 reports of injury due to the product’s seat detaching while in use. Fourteen of the injuries involved bruising and bumps.
The defective chairs were only sold at Office Depot stores across the United States from May 2006 through August 2009. They sold for the price of $300 – $350 per chair. Consumers are encouraged to stop use immediately and to contact Raynor to be sent a free repair kit at their toll free number (866) 244-8180.
