30 Oct ALERT: Coleman Heater Exploded
Coleman, the manufacturer of portable heaters, is being sued over an alleged defective heater. The family’s lawyers, Bisnar Chase, allegeds The Coleman Company knowingly made and sold a defective propane heater, the ProCat PerfecTemp (Model 5053). Trevor Dennis, 11, received severe burns all over his body, and they have resulted in permanent and disfiguring injuries. He was severely injured 4 years ago when one of Coleman’s propane heaters exploded and caused a fire to break out in the family’s camping trailer. The family has also incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical treatment for the boy. Coleman has formally denied that its heater was defective. A jury will now get to decide whether Coleman had prior knowledge that its heater was dangerous. Trial begins next week in Orange County, California. The lawsuit also alleges that Coleman used a faulty design and had received numerous complaints about the safety of the heater in the past, but did nothing about trying to recall the product or at least warn the public.
