26 Oct Three Things to Know About Product Tracking and Product Recall
Manufacturers of products are encouraged to provide what is called “product traceability” to their customers, which helps tremendously in organizing recalled products. Data Collection Online states that product traceability is the act of tracing a problem “through its distribution network to the end customer.” This term may also refer to retracing products backwards throughout the entire life of the product, including its processing history and even to its component level or to the suppliers who help create it.
Now that you know what product tracking is, consider three important notes on the subject that might have interest to you if you are considering litigation because of unsafe products.
1. Traceability systems are most commonly used by a company’s quality control department. The company wants to be able to glean the complete history of the product in order to improve the production process.
2. Traceability systems will be important when the issue is product liability and recalled products. After a product has failed or been implicated in the injury or death of a user, then all parties involved will need to know the traceability system to find out where exactly the problem arose.
3. An effective traceability system should be implemented by the time a product is released. Such a system would allow the manufacturer to identify potentially compromised products and repair the problem. If such an effective system is implemented, the case is relatively easy to contain; the company recalls only the contaminated products and continues business as usual.
Ohio State University presented a positive spin on the product recall scenario when it comes to food products, while the Associated Press had negative things to say about the medical industry’s traceability, especially when it comes to implants.
If you have experienced a problem with recalled products, then you may have grounds for a lawsuit. You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost wages for past, present and future.
