Can Wrong Way on Toll Way Signs Reduce the Number of Vehicle Accidents?

According to the Dallas Morning News, wrong-way crashes have caused untimely deaths on North Texas Tollway Authority roads—four in the first seven months of the year 2009. Most of these vehicle accidents involved drivers who were affected by alcohol or drugs.

WFAA TV reported that the North Texas Tollway Authority has added some new additions to the roads that will hopefully stop vehicle accidents like these from occurring. The NTTA oversaw the installation of wrong way on toll way signs that illuminate with LED lights. This allows the driver to see the message clearly because of moving text. Unfortunately, drivers can sometimes become accustomed to seeing signs on the side of the road and not actually pay attention to what is being said.

The first warning signs posted were up Monday morning. One of these signs is along the northbound ramp at Cotton Gin in Frisco. The second one, when completed, will be found at the northbound end of the toll way at Highway 380 in Frisco.

Earlier in the year, the NTTA was entertaining the idea of using higher technology signs and came up with the concept of raised and reflective pavement markers. These signs reflect red whenever drivers are moving in the wrong direction. Though these signs were installed at 47 toll ways, the NTTA is still looking into new methods to stop this problem.

If you have been injured because of the negligence of a motorist you should immediately contact an attorney. If the driver was moving on the wrong side of the road, despite warning signs posted, then you have a case against personal injury. If you were injured in a wrong way on toll way accident because of the inadequacy of signage or missing signage, then you may also have a case.

Contact The Rasansky Law Firm to learn your options. You should expect a reasonable degree of safety when on the road and minding the rules. If you have been injured in an accident that’s not your fault, someone else has compromised your safety.
