Wrong Way on the North Texas Tollway Again

Wrong Way on the North Texas Tollway Again

Date: October 29, 2009
Location: Southbound on North Texas Tollway, Dallas, Texas
Type: Pick-up truck wreck

Local television channel, WFAA, reported on another accident due to a driver going the wrong way on the North Dallas Tollway again. The Texas Department of Public Safety said 39-year-old Dick Eastin of Addison drove his pickup truck northbound in the southbound lanes of the tollway early Thursday morning.

Eastin’s truck entered the toll road at the Wycliff Avenue exit. After driving for four minutes without headlights into oncoming traffic, his vehicle hit a utility pole and knocked down a sign. That sent the truck careening across the southbound lanes and crashing into a concrete barrier.

Eastin was injured and taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was not available. No other motorists were injured.

Troopers said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, and Eastin faces DWI charges.

An enforcement crackdown was just one of the recommendations issued last month by a task force reviewing a rash of wrong-way crashes on the tollway. Four motorists have been killed in similar wrecks this year. Other recommended changes now being implemented by the North Texas Tollway Authority include flashing signs, more reflective tape and raised pavement markers.
