09 Mar Texas Trucking Fatalities Among Deadliest in Nation
Texas ranks among the most deadly states for large truck crashes (semi accident, 18 wheeler accident, etc) according to The Truck Safety Coalition, a coalition of truck crash victims and safety advocates. With a death rate of 2.2 per 100,000 for large truck crashes, Texas ranks 23 out of 50 states and well above the national average of 1.76 per 100,000 for truck crash death rates.
According to the Coalition, more than 5,200 people were killed and another 114,000 were injured in truck crashed in 2005 nationwide.
The Coalition also gave the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) a failing report card on its truck safety leadership. The coalition called on the agency to strengthen regulations governing truck safety and cautioned against allowing drivers to work more hours than ever before.
