03 Sep Newlywed Couple Killed in Violent Car Crash Monday
Erika Clouet, 24, and her husband, German Clouet, 23, were killed in a car crash early Monday morning. The driver of the other car, Uriel Perez Palacios, 22, was still in the hospital as of Tuesday. The passenger in his car had to be cut out of the vehicle and was also hospitalized.
Officials reported on Tuesday that Palacios would be charged with two counts of murder and three counts of intoxication assault.
Palacios was arrested as recently as June for DWI and was released after he paid the $500 fine. Even more outrageous is the fact that he has been involved in two police chases and four outstanding drug and DWI warrants.
A Dallas County sheriff’s deputy pulled Palacios over around two in the morning on Monday because he was weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to approach the car on foot when Palacios sped away with his lights off and ran a red light, striking an SUV carrying five Southern Methodist University students. His car went airborne and collided with the Clouets’ SUV, killing them instantly. They were returning from a date at the movies.
Three others were injured in the car crash, including two of the SMU students. A representative of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said that it was one of the worst accidents that they had ever seen.
