Houston police are looking into a fatal car accident on a Southwest Freeway this morning. Police stated that a man was southbound in a Chevrolet Impala traveling at a high speed when he reached the 7200 block of the freeway’s service road at around 4:05 a.m. and lost control of his car.

Sgt. D. Arnold with the department’s vehicular crimes division said the car struck a tree next to the sidewalk near a mall and then erupted into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is still pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
