Special Disability Rules For People Who Are Blind

The Social Security Administration provides special disability benefits and has specific rules for people who suffer from blindness or are legally blind.

Social Security Administration Definition of Blindness

The Social Security Administration considers you to be legally blind under if your vision can't be corrected to better than 20/200 in at least one eye. The SSA also considers you to qualify as blind if your visual field is twenty degrees or less with a corrective lens. You may have some site and still qualify for disablity benefits for the blind.

Vision Problems Combined with Other Disabilities

You may qualify for disability benefits even if you are not legally blind. If your vision problems are combined with other health problems, and the combination of health problems prevent you from working, you can be considered disables.
