Loose Magnets, Lead Poisoning Prompts Recall of 9 Million + Toys
Mattell and Fischer Price recalled over 10 million toys collectively due to their risks to children. Poly Pockets, Doggy Daycare, Barbie, Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and many other popular toys were pulled off shelves last month.
One risk is small magnets falling off. If a child swallows two they could become stuck together in two different areas of the stomach or intestines, causing the lining to tear and ultimately lead to serious injuries. Another risk is the paint used on some toys contain high levels of lead and if put in a child's mouth could lead to lead poisoning which in extreme cases could cause partial paralyses.

Back to School - Keep Your Kids Safe
With the new school year starting, our kids face new potential risks. Teachers, bus drivers, after school and day care providers, and many other people are responsible for your children's care during the day.
The start of each school year is a big change for everyone - kids, teachers, parents, and even others without children all have to change their patters to compensate for all the kids going back and forth to school. Increased traffic in the morning and afternoon, many children walking home, increased stress levels for teachers and after-school day cares dealing with dozens of new children can all turn into a risk for your child.
Don't miss the warning signs of daycare abuse. Changes in behavior, bed wetting, acting out emotions can indicate someone might be hurting your children. Click here for more informaion on day care abuse from the Family Life Education website.
Children are at increased risk of traffic-related injuries at the beginning of the school year because there are suddenly many more children on the road each morning and afternoon and many driver’s patterns change.
Bus drivers have special training to drive the large vehicles and are ultimately responsible for your child's well being while on the bus. School bus-related crashes kill over 100 people each year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
