What Do I Do After an Auto Accident?

If you've ever been in an auto accident in Dallas (ESPECIALLY in DALLAS), you'll know just how stressful they can be. However, if you follow are guidelines, you will be in a much better position to handle the situation when it arises.

1. Make sure that your vehicle is not blocking traffic.

2. Put on your hazard lights and display warning signs/road flares, if possible.

3. Assist the injured and call 911 if an ambulance is needed.

4. Call the police to report the accident and report ANY injuries.

5. Cooperate with the police when they arrive

6. Do not remove any debris unless specifically instructed to do so by an officer

7. Write down the officer's name and badge number

8. Do not discuss the accident with anyone else besides the investigating officer, your lawyer, YOUR insurance rep, your doctor, etc.

9. Make detailed notes of the scene of the auto accident. Record the names, addresses, phone numbers and license plates of all who are involved. Get the names of any witnesses.

10. Exchange driver's license information and insurance information with the driver of the other vehicle.

Once you leave the scene of an accident, contact an experienced auto accident attorney. The Rasansky Law Firm has attorneys who are experienced in handling auto accident cases and would gladly give you free legal advice if you are interested in speaking with us.

Next, contact your insurance agent. Take photographs of any damage to you or your vehicle. Realize that a serious personal injury that is caused by an auto accident doesn't always cause immediate pain.

It is important that after an auto accident, you keep calm, don't argue, don't accuse anyone and don't admit fault. After an auto accident you may not be the best judge of who was at fault.
