Tractor Trailer Accidents on the East Coast

A tractor trailer accident in New York shut down traffic on highway 490. The flatbed was carrying eight crushed cars when the driver lost control. The tractor trailer flipped to its side and the cab immediately caught fire. The driver was able to free himself from the truck and he was taken by ambulance for evaluation. He was later treated and released. Firemen said that the driver wasn't seriously hurt in the tractor trailer accident and was conscious and alert.

All westbound traffic between South Clinton Avenue and the bridge were closed for up to two hours beginning at 6 a.m. New York police identified the driver as 43-year-old Patrick Hollenback from Parish, NY.

Troopers reported that speed may have been a factor in the crash and they are currently doing inspections on the truck, including a check of the tires and brakes.

Another tractor trailer accident in New Jersey left a woman trapped under an SUV. The police said that the woman, who was in her 50s, was driving north on the New Jersey Turnpike around 10 a.m. when the SUV turned into the truck and wedged under the trailer. Police said the woman was trapped underneath the wreckage, but later freed. Amazingly, she did not suffer any serious injuries.
