The Texas Department of Human Services is the governmental agency in Texas that is responsible for ensuring compliance with the laws and regulations in Texas. And what happens in Texas is that the licensing agency goes to nursing homes for announced or with unannounced visits and makes sure that the nursing homes comply with the state regulations.

If your loved one has been involved with an incident or an injury at the nursing home, the nursing home is supposed to report an accident or an injury to the State. And if it's of a severe enough nature, the agency will send a team of investigators out to the nursing home to do an investigation. Oftentimes, though, it is the responsibility of the injured party's family to make a complaint to the state agency or the attorney that they hire to make a complaint to the agency because the nursing home does not want the state agency to come in to conduct an investigation.
